William James Reese graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1822 and came to Lancaster in 1827 to set up a law office known as Reese and Hezlin. In October 1829, he married Mary Elizabeth Sherman, sister of General Sherman.

In 1834 the Reeses built this outstanding Greek Revival home one of the finest in Ohio.

The extraordinary architecture alone is well worth the stop, but in addition this is the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio which features an art gallery with traveling exhibitions. Free admission. Open Tuesday through Sunday 1 - 4 p.m.
