The Fairfield County Courthouse was built by George and Guy Blair, stone masons. Constructed out of blackhand sandstone quarried where Anchor Hocking Plant 2 stands, the courthouse is distinctive with its Renaissance - Romanesque style with flat roof, wide bracketed cornice, and curved windows with ornamental window hoods.
The fine iron fence was made by the Eagle Machine Co. a successor to the De Vol Foundry.
The keystone over the entrance to the courthouse is the carved stone face of Henry Ebner, the St. Louis architect.
