Built for Henry Stanbery, law partner for five years with Thomas Ewing. Stanbery was the first Attorney General of the State of Ohio, organizing that department. Later he became the U.S. Attorney General under President Andrew Johnson. He resigned the office so he could defend Johnson in his impeachment proceedings. Now owned by the First United Methodist Church.
Woodwork probably brought from Philadelphia by Stanbery in a wagon. Hand carved cornice detail inspired by a similar one by Inigo Jones in Greenwich, England. Plaster ceiling decorations, Greek key design, various interior designs from Asher Benjamin's Handbook.
Local cast iron fence.
