Samuel Effinger House

Original site of the Effinger House which was razed to erect the Lancaster Hotel now Shaw's Inn and Restaurant. This original house was built for Samuel Effinger, a Virginian, tin and coppersmith. The old stage coach tavern also on this location at the time was retained for use as a service wing.
Architectural features of the Effinger house have been preserved by incorporating them into the architectural embellishments of several homes and buildings in the Heritage District.
Shaw's Inn and Restaurant located on the site of the Effinger House is another provider of cassette self-guided tours and earphones for visitors to Lancaster.
Heading north on High and moving across the street going west on W. Wheeling we will see two murals of historic figures in Lancaster. Then on to the library to see the extraordinary architectural features of the Effinger House.
