In 1858 General Henry Reese and his wife, Helen Catherine and Mary Elisabeth Reese and her husband William James Reese lived in this home. William Reese had formally owned what is now the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio. Henry Bickham Reese, William's son, had been the Paymaster General of the Union Army appointed by President Lincoln.
Some exceptional features of this home include one of the finest cast iron fences in Lancaster. Designed with in Chippendale style with fleur-de-lis posts, this fence was produced by Gilbert DeVol in his local foundry.
